Where do you come from and what can you tell us about yourself?
I'm originally from the UK, but I have lived in Jicin for over 20 years. I love teaching and the challenge of self-improvement, in both myself and my students. I have a hand in many pots. I am a Stand-up comedian, writer, video producer, artist, actor, voice artist, huge geek and philosopher. All of this ties neatly into my teaching. I believe everything is interesting and that is all you need.
Why should students choose you as their teacher?
Students should choose me as their teacher because I bring enthusiasm and expertise to the whole learning process. I do not just teach languages, I also like to challenge my students to better understand their own methods of learning and their own creative processes in a supportive and engaging learning environment where students can experiment with languages.
What do you like about teaching?
I love making a positive impact on a student's educational journey. When my students are learning, so am I. I love using my experience of the classroom to keep my lessons fresh and engaging
What are you hobbies?
I'm not sure where to start, I'm an incredibly busy person with an infinite curiosity for a great many subjects. I focus mainly on the creative arena. I would love to travel more, tour my stand-up comedy show and finally finish the Screenplay I have been working on. essentially there is no 'Outside of teaching' all the hobbies feed back into the classroom.
How will you motivate your future students?
I take an individualistic approach to my students, I love classes but each student should feel their personal goals are being listened to and worked towards, plus they should learn to be part of a team. My job is to marry these two motivations, individual and team player.
What is your message to your students?
My message to my students is simple: Everything is interesting, once this can be seen, everything can be achieved with a little hard work of course.
What is the best way to learn English?
The best way to learn English is through a combination of immersive experiences. be open to new ideas and experiences. Set a goal, big or small, research and find a path to that goal. Talk. communicate, talk, languages are an expression of emotion, be happy in English, laugh and play with the language, be melancholic, be thoughtful, do it in English. express yourself.
What do you say to students when they tell you 'I have no talent for languages'?
I tell them that language learning is not about talent. Language is only a tool, like a complex hammer and students need to pick up the hammer and hit something. Find something to study, find an interesting thing, study that...but in English.
What should students know or do to learn English?
Students should know that learning English is a journey, not a destination. By immersing yourself in the language, practising regularly, and seeking out opportunities for real-life communication, you'll be well on your way to fluency. I am an interesting real-life communication opportunity, let's talk...
